Charles was born on April 30, 1879. To Tobias and Elizabeth Zellner. Charles was the second of three children. An older brother, David M. Zellner was born March 2, 1877. The third was Henry Otis Zellner was born January 1, 1893. All three children were born in Mansfield, Ohio.

Charles married Nancy Loretta Warner. The marriage lasted until Charles passed through the grave to heaven on February 16, 1950. During their marriage, Charles & Nancy brought six children into the world. Margaret, Suzzane, Zerus, Charles Robert, Dolly and Woodrow.
